Chinese New Year gathering with Primary

Image
Dinner never going to be cheap and taste better during Chinese New Year but happy to see my Primary school dear friends. Although we did manage to find a few of the primary school mates but not many can make it for the gathering. Some are living oversea and only coming back during CNY. Many have done well and I am happy for them.

大年初一

Image
Gongxi Fa Cai.  It is the 1st day of CNY and I usually prepare breakfast for the family. Eggs come in handy for breakfast all the time. I'm using the breadmaker to make a Hokkaido milk bread for breakfast so the kids are having, ham, eggs, jam and bread. A simple and quiet breakfast to start the new year. Before leaving for visitation, we get the kids to wish Happy Chinese New year to us.  On our way to great grandmother place on 1st day of Chinese New Year.

CNY Preparation

Image
This year I took 3 days of leave to stay at home to clean up the house together with marketing as well.  This is really good as I can pack my food neatly now. This the best time to use my Eiffel vacuum pack device to pack my food. I always store my fridge with enough eggs for the family.  I have 3 woks in my kitchen, however they are too big and heavy for small amount of cooking. My kmart wok coating is coming out and I need to get a new smaller wok to work with. I have being trying to get a light weight wok and wanted to do away with coated wok this time. I got this Lock & lock wok from Q10. I was thinking it was just a iron wok but when I got the wok I realised it also has a coating on it and my wok was dented during delivery. Argh... No choice. I need the wok for cooking my reunion dishes.  I didnt cook alot since BIL's family is not coming over for dinner. A few signature dishes and steamboat.  After all the cleaning up, putt...

Parenting workshop

Image
I signed up a parenting workshop organise by school. Now sec sch parent have to work double hard. Path Janelle takes every morning So much greenary along the way.  Taking the route by my ah ger daily. Walking along the canal.  There are many side gates into the school but it was not opened. I saw two ladies taking a short path just beside the nearest gate from the route and I just followed. I believe they are also parents attending the talk. A short path

Spring cleaning

Image
I took a day leave to really get myself to do spring cleaning. There is so much to do but I am always the one taking leave to do it. There was a pile of new clothes to wash so the kids n Law get to wear during CNY. Curtains to wash which I only do once a year.  I was thinking if I should make Ngoh Hiang this year as I never able to finish them and I still have many CBY goodies in mind that I wanna do. Do I have time? I still end up getting the pork n prawn to make Ngoh Hiang. Inbetween I make a trip to the dentist to fix my braces. Dentist make it tighter this round again and I can feel the pull sensation.  I only have time at night to wrap the meat then steam it. Just nice Viven came over to pick up the umbrella I got for them from TaoBao and I just had my 1st batch of Ngoh Hiang out of the steamer so get her to bring home some. Her dear sister bao TOH me and told Mary and my dear sister now complained about me for not giving her my Ngoh Hiang. Lol.  ...

Well done to myself

Celebrating Birthday for our 1st teenager

Image
This year we didn't really do anything special to celebrate Janelle birthday. She even told us not to get her cake. Like Julian said to Janelle.  "姐, are you teenager after today?"  Never cross my mind what Julian said was right. She is setting off to the next stage of development. May you gain the wisdom from each hinder you encounter, gain your encouragement and perseverance from failure.

Hardworking 大姐

Image
10 subjects and additional Chinese calligraphy and Malay conversational program. That's is what in Janelle time table and it is like so much things for a secondary school student. Higher Chinese is one Janelle scare she couldn't cope with and she is doing her revision and reading daily to prepare for tmr. I just the obedience is only for the start. Haha... Yes she is really working hard to make new friends, to survive with the increase of more subjects. No extra lesson is a wise choice now. I think she deserve more time to rest and completed her school work.

A mother of five!

Image
What it feels like to be a mother of five kids?  Let say kids of age 13, 12, 11, 5 & 1? The waiter has to find 3 tables to combine for such a big family. The advantages are to have the older one taking care of the younger, to teach them to share their favourite food, to protect and keep a watchful eyes on each other.  So mummy can relax and concentrate on the youngest!!

Good is never so Good before

Image
I has never feel so relief even for at a short moment, at least for Friday. At least we know that our days of effort talking to Janelle did not go down the drain. Of course, I must said she was still our great fighter, trying her very best to overcome the emotional difficulties she is facing in the new environment. Hopefully, tonight we get to see her smiling face instead of her hiding at one corner and thinking what we think is overthinking.  At a point I think letting the students to have accessed to their mobile phone may not be a good idea as the device has somehow hinder human face to face interaction to a point that make one feel unfriendly, misunderstood, wrong body language. Where is the old times where classmates just chit chat and gossips during break time. However I am also grateful that I managed to keep in contact with my daughter who I can check her out constantly and she can text me for help by asking for some assurance from me.  Time will heals ...

New Year, New color

Image
Is it too red for me? I wanted to do blue and maroon bleaching on my hair but my stylist just refused to help me. He kept warning me how much harm the bleach will do to the hair. I wondered is the bleaching process too troublesome for him that he refused to do it for the customer. However, he knew I was very interested to have more colours on my hair. In the end, he suggested to do more colors on my hair to fulfill my vanity. He suggest I go for this striking pinkish color and I add on orange as well. The 2 colors were done on my top of my head but I wanted a cover up of my usual overall color so I can cover it up during work. In fact the more I look at it, I love it more.

Home accident

Image
My poor little boy got into accident because of his adventurous venture into the kitchen at granny place. Mother in law place is as baby friendly as possible but we can't really hide all the little dangerous spot. There is a foldable table folded up in the kitchen n this boy must have decided to try his hand on it and the table toppled over him knocked on his face. Luckily not his eyes but this injure already very scary.   Mother in law very heartpain and keep blaming herself on this.  When we reached in law place, the bruise is red but not painful to him. He doesnt seem to remember he is wounded earlier. I have passed MIL a bottle of Helichrysum EO to use on the wound. Hopefully it will heal in time with no scar before CNY.

Birthday celebration for Janelle

Bingsu time

Law said he saw a Bingsu place just beside the KFC at Bugis. He drove us to check it out instead of driving us home. We ordered the Mango Bingsu, it wasnt cheap (why is the Bingsu so expansive) but

Happy Sweet 13

Happy Birthday to my sweet 13. 13 is like a great milestone to you. New school, new friends, more subjects, more challenges and trying to find yourself among your peer. We can understand how overwhelming you feel among your new peers, trying to find your own identity, trying to mix into the new social group. Do know that daddy and mummy are here to help you to cope with the changes. However, we cannot be with you all the times, you are still the one who need to face the challenges all by yourself. Do remember when you started to feel down, remind yourself to use your brain to work out the logic. Do not allow your heart to take the lead and fight the urge for it to take over. Daddy and mummy can only guide you, you will have to fight the emotional battle yourself.

Parents Newsletter from CCHM

Oh my god. The school sent the parents the newsletters 28 pages thick with a year event calendar attached and Janelle will be having her 1st Common test on the 7th week of the school term. I was more overwhelmed by the school than Janelle.

Kim restaurant

Kids wanna eat Korean food and we went all the way to Bukit Timah to look for the food. Wanted to go another restaurant but it was full so we walked to the old good Kim restaurant again. The kids were amazed of the number of side dishes they gave us. We have the Army pot while Julian still prefer his ginseng chicken. Law said their ginseng chicken soup just like what he had in Korea.
