CNY visiting

Image
Gong Xi Fa Chai on the Ox year. The kids woke up at 7:30am despite that they all slept ard 11pm last nite. So weird, they never seem to be able to wake up in time for school. I wished them Happy New Year once they woke up. hahaha.. I heat up the Ham and made poached eggs as breakfast. Using the Mickey & Minnie cutter to shape the bread for the kids. Julian finshed all the bread as he find it so interested to munch on the mickey ears. Janelle loves her mushroom ham that we got from Cold Storage (she is not a ham lover but as long as there is mushroom she will take it). I brot out the flowers so she could help me to deco it. 1st stop - Great Granny place. We got dressed up and head to the nice great granny place ard 1pm and met Law's cousin along the way. This is the only time all the cousins and relatives will gathered at the 4 room flat of great granny house. It was really cramped but none really mind, the guys will update their status at works while the mummies will chit chat ...

Reunion Dinner 2009

Image
This year we have reunion dinner at IL place on the Sat and my mum place at Sunday. I was fortunate as both parents co-ordinate the timing well and so we get to meet each side of the family without rushing thru the meal. MIL prepared steamboat for reunion with all the usual ingredients of prawn, meat, fish, fishball and "Yan Jiao" from her friends. We stayed around for a while after the dinner and head back home. My mum prepared dishes instead as she find steamboat quite boring and she was quite sick of having steamboat. hahaha... So we digged into my mum specialities like her Spicy sour fish Maw soup, Fuzhuo fish ball soup etc etc... yummy... Then a short session of poker game which I lost $30 immediately for being too greedy. Po Po also prepared the vegetarian style of Lou Hei this year. U can see that Janelle is very keen to help out in anyway. Spotted the little arm stretching out to the plate. That is my Julian, this is his 1st time doing Lou Hei himself. He was just too...

Last Baking

Image
I have promised Janelle I bake something for her to bring to childcare for CNY celebration. I have cake in mind but Janelle requested for cookies instead. Well, I think the kids will prefer cookies than cake, some may not even like my cake. So we fetched the kids from MIL place and back home for some baking session. To be truthful, I didnt like Janelle coming into the kitchen while I was cooking or baking. I find an extra hands do not help much infact making me even busier but this time I wanted her to be part of it and be proud of the end product. I let her have a test of my whisking machine, I get her to whisk the butter, sugar and egg. She seemed to have fun doing it, and I will be her helper pouring in the ingredient for the cookies. To make the cookies more nutrious I added in Oatmeal, ground almound, prune and of course chocolate chip and chocolate rice. Julian supposed to be ard helping too but he soon complained of tireness and I sent him to bed and left the mother and the dau...

I smell of butter

Has being doing alot of baking on weekends. I have managed to bake a Prune butter cake for Vivien when I visited her on Friday nite. Luckily the prune cake turned out well and I am glad the family like it. She suggested I tried chocolate next time. hahaha.. I went to get fresh coconut to squeeze out coconut milk to make the kueh Bangkits. This time I used the Saga flour instead. Well, the result was good cos the biscuit really melted in the mouth but I dun like the taste the sago flour. I still find tapoica flour give a better fragnant but was very tricky to work with tapoica flour. Well, I will not be trying to make anymore kueh Bangkits since my sister fly my kite and didnt turn out to help me. I still managed to clear up the 600g of saga flour and make two small boxes of kueh Bangkits. Well, my love letter was running low so i make more for my mum and MIL. I have no intention to save anything for myself. All these making has make me lost the craving for CNY goodies. I make another a...

Bugs bugs go away

Yes....none of us have really recovered. I was so sick of going to doctor and taking medicine. Both Law and I decided to visit a neighbourhood doctor for a change to seek 2nd opinion. The usual doctor kept giving us the same kind of medicine and we didnt seem to get any better. So we decided to check out Dr Keith Ong from NorthEast Clinic. We were glad we made this choice. Dr Keith told me I need a better antibotic to get well. (ok a better one which mean i need to pay more). Yes, ZITHROMAX from Pfizer which cost $40 a box of 6 pills but the effect can last me for 7 days once I finished all of them. Then there are Telfast-D, Codeine Phosphate, Celebrex, Fenfedrin and Prednisolone. He actually suggesting to give me a jab of strong antibotics but I decline, told him to let me try out the oral 1st. Jab will be the last resort. As for Law, he gave him some migrine medicine that contain a small amount of aspirin, as he is allergy to aspirin Dr Keith wanted him to take note if he has very ba...

Baking Crazec

I am crazy with baking recently. I went to get 2 block of Lurpuk butter at Cold storage, then searching high and low for Golden Churn tin butter but I just couldnt find it. Then I went Holland Village at lunch to get 2 more blocks of Lurpuk butter. 1 pack of Del monte prune At Shermay 1 bottle of organic vanilla extract which cost me $27.95 after 30% discount. Together with Ngee Hwee, Angeline & Eelin, we dropped by Phoon Huat for 1 9" round cake tin 2 flour sieves 1 bottle of orange flavour emulco 1 bottle of double action baking powder 1 28cm mixing bowl YES YES.. I am all ready to bake now.

What happen to the family?

What happen to the family? Well, we have being falling sick after each other. Janelle having stomach flu before her bday, and managed to recover then Julian is having diarrhea which we suspected getting it from Janelle. When we thot all of the kids were fine, I fell sick with sore throat and uncontrollable coughing. The mucus got my ear block and I was undergoing 2 courses of antibiotics, Chinese medication and acupuncture. That was not the end, I am still at the stage of recovering. Now, Law is sick. Down with bad diarrhea and migraine. He was resting at home the last two days and couldnt attend Seaking wedding as well. Then we realised Janelle was having watery poo whenever she took milk. Oh no, I have to stop all her lactose intake till she has no watery poo. It is too young for her to turn lactose intolerance now. Hopefully all the sick bug will leave us soon.

A present, a new friend

We celebrated Janelle bday with party and cakes but we didnt get her a gift. So on Sat, while shopping at Suntec, we went past Build-a-Bear workshop. She requested for a bear and I agreed. She chosed the Velvetbear and name him "Jojo" and Law agreed to dress him up a little sporty. The new friend cost us $68++ but I think it was a once a year affair and told Janelle to really take care of Jojo as she is the mummy of Jojo now.

CNY cookies - My tester reviews

I only gave out Love letter to my mum and my MIL and Kueh Bangkit to my mother. Here are the reviews I got from both of them. Love letter using OhTaste Magazine recipe MIL: Like it, very crispy. Mum: Very crispy Love letter using Kuali.com recipe MIL: Equally nice Mum: Nicer, the coconut milk fragant is stronger. She prefers this. Kueh Bangkit Mum: Doesnt really melts in the mouth Problem: Cannot add any water at all. The quality of the coconut milk counts.

An eye opener

I attended Aunty Yochana cake demonstration class on Sat. It was really an eye opener. I really learnt something from it. My inital intention was to learn how to make Kueh Lapis. She not only taught Lapis in the class she also taught orange cake, walnut cake and prune cake. Althot she is using creaming method but there was a slight different from what I have learned from my secondary school day. I guessed there was much to learn in the baking world. Aunty Yochana is such an inspiring woman. I am glad I have made it to her class and I also got back the cake she demo and some other cakes she made. They are really yummy, i cant wait to try them out.

CNY cookies

Image
Dun know wat has come over me and I feel like making some CNY cookies for a change. May be due to the lousy economic but that is not the real reason. I simply love cooking. My 1st attempt of CNY cookies is the Kueh Bangkits, the white tapioca cookies that suppose to melts in the mouth. The cookies turned out well but I dun know does it melts in one's mouth. I need kueh bangkit lover to test it out for me. 2nd attempt is the kueh bulo, the mini egg cake from Aunty Yochana's blog. The 1st two batches was good then it didnt turn out beautiful anymore. 3rd attempt is the love letter, I found the recipe at the OhTaste magazine and decided to give it a try. I urge Law to bring me to get a love letter maker. He was wondering why a sick woman like me can be so energtic when come to cooking. We went audio house, Giant but couldnt find it. Best Denki is selling for $44 so I passed it as I rbr I saw it somewhere which only cost ard $33. We head down to Parkway NTUC and saw it selling for ...

CNY preparation

CNY is arriving in 2 weeks time and it is time to start preparing for it. 1stly, we need to do spring cleaning. There is a lot to throw, to pack, to wash and to keep. I need to pack up all the smaller clothes of the kids to give away. Have to get Law to take out those clothes he doesnt want to wear anymore cos our wardore is bursting. For me, some of the old clothes to throw away to make way for the new one. Washing - lots to be done. Curtains, cushion cover, bed sheets, new clothes. I just washed a batch of new clothes. Law doesnt realise he actually got 10 new tees. hahaha.. I need to clean up corner of the house as that is where all the dust gathers. Decoration - yes, there must be some CNY deco to brighten up the festival. Janelle has being asking me if we are going to bring out the CNY deco and I think we need to get some new deco this year. Baking - I am trying to do some baking so I give them as a gift to my mum and sister. Wanted to try making the love letter this time but 1st ...

Recent Update

Welcome 2009.................. A new begining of the year. (ok I was kind of late as I only start welcoming 2009 on the 6th of Jan 09) Janelle has promoted to Kindergarten 1 and in class K1B. Julian still stays in N1B as the rest of the older kids promoted to N2. I expecting more work to be done in class for Janelle as the CC shld be preparing the kids for Primary School education. As for Julian, his conversation starting to make more sense to us and able to speak much clearer but there are still room for improvement. We hope we could understand his need very soon. As Jennifer mentioned once they able to talk clearly, everything will speed up. Waiting for the day to come.................

Janelle 5th Bday Celebration back home.

Image
Another year past, and a new year also mark the coming of Janelle bday. Yes, imagine 5 yrs ago, I was waiting to pop Janelle out from my tummy. Days of waiting n waiting that I decided to go for induction. I still rbr my last checkup with my gynae was on the 5th of January. Now, she is going to be 5 soon. The original plan was to hold her bday on Sat but she was a bit kind of sick before that so we decided to let her rest more and have the party on Sunday. Since I am only calling close friends and family, so I will be preparing the food all by myself of course with the help of my mother and my MIL. I roasted the pork belly again. My mum gave me a very high compliment on this dishes. She said ever since she tasted my roasted pork, she does not find any roasted pork outside that is comparible as mine. WOW..... I fried chix wings, bee hoon, my spicy chix curry. My MIL brot some prawn and I get to cook some wine prawns for my guests. It is not a wide spread but my table was really full wh...
