Buah Keluak Party

After soaking the black nuts for 7 days, it is the day to cook it! I must really thanks my sisters and mother for being so supportive to come over and try the dishes. Although mum kept saying she really cannot appreciate the taste of buah keluak but she still ate two of the nut. Mary is the most sporting, she ate the most and came early to give me moral support. LOL! MORAL SUPPORT! Its great to have them over because I missed them very much. Really didnt want to just stay alone with the kids. I needed some decent noises in the house.

I wanna challenge these nuts and i have being soaking it for days. I was told to soak it for 7 days before cooking and to change water each day. Just you wait little nuts.

Playing in kitchen

I did many many things on Saturday Kitchen and I really feel so crazy yet satisfying. 1st I made kaya. Seriously I always fail making kaya cos it is so difficult to make and there is so many methods in internet and I dont know which one to follow. Then I decided to follow one that use to steam the kaya half of the time. When I opened the lid, my heart dropped because I can see the texture turned lumpy but the method asked to whisk the kaya for a while. I whisked quite a while and started to see the smoothness coming back. Happily storing the kaya in the fridge now. I used 5 eggs. I went Tekka Market in the morning and I got crabs, cockles, sting ray, sotong back. My shopping was full, mostly vegetable and chicken and seafood. I pan-fried and baked the sting ray a bit cos it was too big and my frying pan is too small. The sting ray end up a bit dry which could due to the baking but the smell of the banana leave and the fish was great. No chilli cos I have no time to make and the k...

Birthday outing with big boy

I took a day leave to spend time with my big boy. We decided to go into JB for some shopping and food. Mala pot, doesnt look like something glam for a birthday treat but that is what so special about. Law having craving for it as we didnt get to eat it last week so I suggested to try this since there are many good review. We took the challenge to increase the spicy level to medium. Law said it was spicy but I feel ok. Something Mala doesnt really come that cheap. OK, we managed to finish it.

Mimosa

Since when I couldnt find Mimosa plant at my estate anymore wondering where it gone. Here I found this cute little interactive plants on our way to child care center. So I showed Skyler how to make the plant shy away. He found it amazing and will try to remember the plant name. Now each morning if we happened to go to school via bus, he will request to touch the plants before proceeding. Wild enough to find a good big patch of Mimosa plant near the bus stop.

Pasta Night

After yesterday cooking, I wanted something simple to cook for tonight and the kids requested pasta. Skyler loves his tomatoes but he doesnt like his tomatoes cooked or even by products of tomatoes. Like ketchup or tomatoes based sauce. NO NO.. he just like his tomatoes the original way so I cooked a broth and asked him to chose the pasta he wanted. He chose the shell pasta to go with his broth. While digging into my food storage I saw this can of ready cabonara sauce. I wondered it this was a foc items or I bought it. I asked the kids if they wanna try and I can make both the red and the white sauce to make it as 鸳鸯. The sauce is not bad too. I added onion and ham to enhance the flavour a bit. Law said the white sauce is good and not too creamy and mixing with the red sauce help to balance the taste a bit. Very palatable .

My 1st brioche bread

After my successful attempt of chinese bao, my backside itchy and wanted to bake something so I google and found this brioche recipe and decided to give it a try. It needs 12 hrs of proofing time int he fridge so I made it on Friday night and let it proof overnight hoping I can get it in time for breakfast. OK I couldnt get it in time for breakfast as I brot the family to Knots for breakfast instead and we went NTUC for marketing and blah blah blah and the last proofing suppose to me 2hr and I think I left it too long and it "grew" so much until I could hardly recognise my dough. However the taste was great, just that if you leave it outside for too long it will dried up a bit. I brought it over to my mum place and my nephew loves it and tabao now. I actually cooked Chicken curry on Saturday but got asked to go over my mum place. I brought my curry along but I didnt take a photo of that. Steamed bao

This is the best bao I ever made! I love the texture of the skin, sorry for the ugly looking bao. I got the bao recipe from my KL aunt. Knowing I will get scolding from her because I always lost the recipe she gave me. This time I make sure I hide the recipe away so I will not delete it away when I clean up my phone. I actually made two flavors. Pork Bao and Vegetable bao. I love vegetable bao that is made of turnip, carrot, mushroom and dried shrimps. Pork bao if of course minced pork, ginger, spring onion. The pork bao seasoning was taken from facebook. Janelle like the flavour. I usually not very good in seasoning the pork cos I still find the porky taste after cooking.

Cauliflower rice

This is unbelievably delicious. I didnt like cauliflower at all because I find the vegetable tasteless and it was never on my dining table. LOL. Mummy doesnt cook what she doesnt like to eat. Why I started making this? I saw the vegetable hawker selling taiwan Cauliflower and they are usually sweeter than the China version so I thought may be it will taste nicer. I chopped up the cauliflower, add onion and started pan fried it, I added coriander leave before dishing out. I love coriander leave! Just plain eating the cauliflower rice is actually very delicious but I added it into my shrimp salad. Yum Yum.

Happy Birthday Julian. 12 yrs and ongoing

Happy Birthday to my eldest son. This is a tough year and we hope you endure it, work hard and achieve what you wish for. Thanks God that Janelle and Julian continue to be loving to each other. They have very good relationship and will chat, play games, sleep in the same room and help each other. Sometime we will spot them holding hands and hugs each other. Who looks like who? If I say Julian looks like daddy that is when Skyler is not around but now look look see see. I also dun know who look like who. Who is the happiest and ecstatic here? I added on more signal candles so Skyler will have a chance to blow off other candles. Dun fight the candle with kor kor! I guess only during birthday Skyler is more forgiving. LOL... Such an cute shot. I pray hard that they love each other till the end of the day.

See me not! Peek me not! Open your eyes! Peek a boo!! Little Skyler is running a fever but thank god he is still cheerful and active. We just hope he doesnt have HFMD.

July Birthday celebration started!

I want to consider July is one of my busiest month of the year. Why? 1stly, my wedding anniversary. 2ndly, Law's birthday 3rdly, Julian's birthday 4thly, Jovan birthday. And just happened that my wedding anniversary passed celebrating together with the kids. Before the celebration started, Julian already eyeing the packet of ready mix takoyaki and asking me to make it for him. I promised I will do it on Saturday night after the dinner. The pre-mixed was really good, but it doesnt contain the fish flake and the brown sauce. I bot the sauce separately and the kids commented that it tasted like medicine so we all have our takoyaki without it and really we dun need the sauce at all. I really scare I couldnt handle the takoyaki well and will end up odd shape but I was wrong. It wasnt that difficult at all. Just that I was bathing in my own sweat while making this for the kids. I got the takoyaki pant from taobao, it makes 12 and I actually make 5 rounds with them. Ima...

Year End trip confirmed!

I was or we was flickered minded about where to go for our year end holiday. Oh yes, talking about holiday again right after my June trip. Was 1st set my mind for Dest A but it is a new place that we have never being before and I scare I will overspent since I will be paying most of the travel expenses.  Then I was thinking why not Dest B, but we scared Julian cannot take the food. Then then we saw this variety show of this chef going around this country for food and we was like WOW let go back Dest C since the food will suit Julian. However when I get my hand down and do the searching for the tickets and accommodation I realized the air ticket pricing is good but the accommodation is way too expansive. Weather is one of the factor for this trip planning, so after much consideration I shortlist Dest B & C. I told Julian we may be considering B & C. I asked him which on did he prefer.
