Ballet lesson

Just a few days after the PTM with the teacher, I realised my daughter did not bring up an issue she has in school that required me to bring it up to the teacher. The silly girl just broke down and cried one night and told MIL that she did not want to attend the ballet lesson after school re-open and yet she did not dare to tell me. I ended up understanding what was going on from my MIL. Apparently, there was a new ballet teacher teaching Janelle's classes 2 weeks before the school closed for term break and this ballet teacher was very fierce. She had being scolded the girls for forgetting the steps etc and which end up instilling fear in Janelle. I believe in scolding but not to the extend of creating the side effect of making the students reject the lesson. Going into this extend is bad, so I decided to drop the form teacher an email and give her a call to make my feedback. The form teacher was very nice to response to me fast enough before I went for our oversea trip. I told...

P2 PTM for Janelle

Image
I was the last parent that the teacher needed to meet that day cos Janelle was the last in the registered class list. I walked into the waiting area and in less than 5 min I was called. Mdm Rina was Janelle's form teacher who teached her all the main stream subjects. Beside carelessness, I only got praises from the teacher. She is responsible, assert self-discipline, quiet and helpful student. Fast learner and a vivid book lover. Why do the teacher says that? Her teacher claimed that Janelle will always find the opporunity to bury herself back into her story books the moment she finished her work. She will not chit chat with her classmates, or disturb them. However she never stingy in giving out her help if there is a need. However she is so engross in her book world that sometime the teacher has to call her a few times to bring her back to reality.

Holiday Homework

Before I could actually look into Janelle's holiday homework. She told me she has completed 90% of them, that was really fast. Now I hope the teacher actually gave her more so to kept her busy during the mid term break. However, if she has finished her holiday homework meaning she has no problem coping and that also meant I have more time to teach her extra.

When we are primary 2

Image
Phone camera cant be really trusted. Anyway, this is Janelle Primary 2 class photo. She claimed I bought the P1 class photos too but both of us have no idea where we have placed it. I promised her that we will get it frame and place in her room. Friends forever!

Pão de Queijo / Brazilian Cheese Bread

Image
When I saw the recipe, I told myself I am gonna try this. Just happened that we went marketing earlier for milk, cream, cheese to stock up. On top of that, my recent kitchen cleaning make me realised I have 2 packed of unopened tapioca  flour. Since this recipe call for tapoica flour that was a great opporunity for me to help me clear some of it away. Simple ingredients, simple to make and great yummy result. For those who love anything with cheese. Should give this a try. Recipe in my cookingjourney blog.

Home made ice cream

Image
After some search on fresh vanilla pod at mustafa on Saturday we finally going into making ice-cream. Our 1st homemade ice-cream after we go our ice-cream maker. However the 1st ice-cream we made is not vanilla ice-cream but we going into dark chocolate ice-cream using very expansive cocoa powder I got from Holland Village and my left over dark chocolate chip from phoot huat. From measuring to cooking then chilling and finally into the ice cream maker it can take a whole day as the chilling of the mixture can take a while. The wait is worth it, as the joy of seeing the ice-cream forming is make one very high. Now the ice-cream is back into the freezer for the final stage.

Sweetest morning messages

I wake up very early this morning cos I wanted to cook something for my dinner instead of searching for food on my way home. Left home at 6:30am for marketing and told Law that Julian should be fine alone at home for just a while as he need to send Janelle to school. My handsome son loves chee cheong fun very much. He is a chee cheong fun KILLER and a way to make him have something in the morning. I woke him up at 7am which is pretty early for him as he usually only wakes up only at 7:30am. When happens next is the sweetest messages I got from my child Me: Julian, time to wake up. I got you chee cheong fun for breakfast. Do u want to eat? Julian: Mummy, I missed you so much. Where are you last night? Me: (touched!) I went out to meet aunties. Julian: Why didnt you come home early? Me: I did but you sleep early last night. Julian: You know I miss you right Me: Yes.

My Mother Day pressie

Image
I have being eyeing for this gadget for sometime but hold my desire till now as I wanted to keep some for my wants for special ocassion. Well, after going through with the kids what I wanted to have for Mother's day we concluded that we can have an ice-cream maker this year. Janelle is specially excited as she is an utimate ice-cream fan, this is the dessert that brightened her day up just like chocolate. Before we even got the ice-cream maker, we have started visiting National libray for ice-cream recipe. Getting ready mentally is so important for food lover. After our mother's day celebration dinner with my mother and siblings, we headed down to Mustafa for a walk but the main agenda was to look for ice-cream maker. We enquired at Best Deki but it was sold out. In Singapore market, there are two homemade ice-cream maker brand which is philips and kenwood. I just wanted to grab the whichever is cheaper in the market. I was gald that Mustafa still have stock for Kenwood...

Do you cook with MSG

What is MSG? Monosodium glutamate. I dun cook with MSG anymore as I always or I was told it was actually bad for health and causing hair lost. For the health of my children and hubby I have stop using it for 10 yrs BUT that doesnt mean I never keep a bottle at home. OK not true that I never use once for the past 10 yrs. I will still use it when I really cannot bring the flavour out of the dishes and when I am really desperate. However, I always told my friends, MIL and Law that we all grew up eating my mum dishes that contain MSG and we are still growing well till now. So how harmful is MSG? Today I read an article about MSG and I find it interesting and I must say may be a redress for MSG. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/05/dining/05glute.html?pagewanted=2&_r=2 Do we really eating healthy now or are our food really free of MSG? How reliable is the food label and are they really MSG free? After reading the article, I realised we are still eating MSG and they are under assum...

Zebra cake

Janelle was suggesting to make zebra cake for Julian bday celebration in school. I was quite surprised on her suggestion. I bet she must have some craving for the cake recently, she even suggest we did it the way we have it last time - to add banana into it which make it even more appealing to the taste bud.

Witty Julian

Image
Jul: Mummy tmr is your day right? (He means Mother's Day) Me: yes. Jul: so we have to get you a present. Me: that will be nice. (Here comes the Witty Julian) Jul: So can you buy me a toy on Children's Day? Me: huh! (open my both eyes really wide) Jul: pleaseeeee..... His innocent hidden agenda.

Curry fish steak salad

Image
Back to my eat to slim program. Since I can't really use any pre-made sauce for my diet I still can season my food with spices. Here is my new creation. I present to you my curry fish salad. Simply with a little bite of spicy on my boring meal.

My comfort Sitiawan food

Image
This is a very rundown and old coffee shop that is situated just beside the chicken slaughtering ground of the old market. The market is no longer there but the two poultry slaughtering grounds are still there. This is the old coffee shop that is selling the very authentic sitiawan Lou Ma Gai. Is the taste that I always love and I can never find in Singapore unless I cooked my own. There are chicken, pork and eggs in the small bowl of Lou Ma Gai. Beside the Lou Ma Gai, it sells Xiu Mai, fishball, baos, eggs stuffing and beancurd stuffings. The stuffing is made of fish meat instead of meat. This is Guang Pin or we call "Gong Pian" in Fuchou dialect. I dun think Singapore has it as the method of making this required a charcoal stove where the pancake will be sticked to the side of the stove till it was baked. The one I bot contained pork or another type that contained onion. It was so popular that it always sold out very soon so we have to pre-order to avoid disappointme...

Vegetation

Image
Uncle crazy idea again and this time he is into vegetation. I am interested to know more so I volunteered to visit his vege farm the next morning I reached Sitiawan. Uncle has a few vegetation that he told me he loan the land from the Palm oil plantation owners since they are cultivating the young palm tree now and it need 2 years before the palm tree could actually havest something useful. He managed to convince the plantation ownder to t-loan the land for him to plant vegetable during these two years for no cash but in condition that he helps to nurient the land with fertilisers these 2 yrs. I visited a few and for the start uncle started growing long bean and lady fingers. I have the honour to help him to havest the long bean on his long bean plantation. It was really an experience for me of course the mossie are especially happy to see me as I got a few bumps after the visit. You really need right attire for such work

My Wesak day in Sitiawan

Image
In Singapore we call the day where buddha attained his alightenment as Vesak day but in Malaysia due to translation they spelled as WESAK day. After 2 hrs drive from Ipoh to Sitiawan we proceed to 三宝宫 for Wesak day celebration. There is a stage setup for performance like seventh month singing stage. I am not very interested so I proceed with Bathing the Buddha and contribute to dressing up the Buddha in golden dressing. We also attend blessing session by the monk.  Although I couldnt attend the Vesak day celebration in Singapore I still manage to catch it at Sitiawan. The celebration may be slightly different but they all has the same meaning. To give, shared and be kind hearted to all beings. I got myself a blessing band tied by the monk hoping I will be blessed with better luck this year.

Grandma bday dinner

Image
Grandma bday dinner was held at the restaurant at Lawa Kuda. Every time we came here we dined at different restaurant cos there are too many here to try on. 大舅 ordered 9 dishes dinner n all came with big serving. Bro's fiancé was invited and they enjoyed the dishes and conversation with my humorous 大舅 very much. It was a great time comparing to the morning breakfast that I simply cannot enjoy a bite of the dim sum at all. A table cost less than rm250. Truthly worth it. We then gathered around to sing grandma a bday song n cake cutting before we end the celebration.

My painful 1st day at Ipoh

Image
My breaks was finally here and yet I started to feel lost. It is quite rare for me to travel without kids and Law. I started to miss them n Julian kept telling me he will miss me make it worse. I wondered why I wanted to follow my mum back Malaysia the 1st place. Law and kids sent me to Golden Mile bus terminals where all the inter country buses are gathering. I took Grassland instead as there was no more seats from Sri Manjung. Jennifer said I was very brave to dare to travel alone in coach to Malaysia. Althot my coach left earlier but it reached the destination 30 min later than my mum buses. We then proceed to 的大舅 house to put our belongings. We head down to the market hawker center for breakfast and visit the morning market nearby. It was Wesak day so we got to see the hawkers selling "Huai Cake" in the market. The Huai Kueh were so colourful but we were told it cannot be eaten, may be due to the coloring so we only looked and take picture. I enjoyed the morning ma...

Julian's creation

Image
Talking about creativity, children have lots of it and they never resist themselves to show to the world. Julian loves his cartoon characters. Transformers, Ben10, NinjaGo, etc. You name it and I think the two kids knew all of them. Julian as a boy love his weapons, planes and tank the best. He made planes and guns out of paper, now he made tanks out of manjong tiles too. The artistic part is he place the bomber head diagonally to create a very nice visual effect. The frame that I got from an Iphone App seem to goes very well with this theme. He is so proud of his own creation that he wanted me to take of picture of him with his work.

Our June Roadtrip 2012 Planning

Image
Another road trip? Yes, another one going back to Msia again. Though I asked friends to join us but not a lot of them are really confident to drive in. I always thought my driving experiences should give them a piece of mind but still they took all the bad experiences more seriously. There is another place that Law, me and my brother in law wanted to go so I got it all plan up this time. Brother in law wanted to go Cameron Highland that we missed out last Dec. Law wanted to visit the The Lost World at Tambun at Ipoh, while I wanted to visit 1Utama, The Curve at Petaling Jaya. Going all the way to Cameron and Ipoh will take about 8 hours drive, I couldnt drive and it is not right for me to demand my driver to chiong all the way up. We decided to have a rest at PJ on the 1st night before we chiong our way up to Ipoh. I booked a night at One Avenue Hotel at PJ, which is not too far from 1Utama. It is a small hotel with only 2 stars but the hotel has Triple and Quad ...
