Melaka Day 2
Holiday is about relax and enjoying food. This morning we venture into the same satay celur area for dim sum. It is not the most that fantastic dim sum we had. Because the bao skin stick onto our teeth and the lou mai kai is not flavorful to me but the siew mai and fried carrot cake is good thot the kids still prefer the spore black sauce version.
We dont just stop here. It will be waste not to try Nonya kueh in Melaka and the famous kueh will be the Baba Charlie stall. It is not really a stall, more like his house with a big kitchen preparing all the kueh. We see many of his old customers streaming into the house. He has a small room that displayed all the kuehs his staffs have made in the morning.
Look at the variety of kuehs you can find here and pampered of choice. They not only selling kuehs but belachan, cincalok, belacham chili, gula melaka, the dried blue flower for cooking. Person like me who likes to cook will not miss out getting cooking ingredients here.
I got a pack of the dried blue flower for Rm5 thot I not sure do you consider this cheap but I dun think I can find the dried flower in spore. I also got their belachan for myself and my mum. We are the cooking craze and such items are a must to get for the kitchen.
After the visit to the Baba Charlie, we headed back to Homestay because it was so warm to stay out. All the kids rather hide in their aircon room playing ipad and mobile games cos the house owner provided us with Wifi too. Since it was the 1st time my sister and brother in law came to Melaka, they wanted to visit the historical sites. So we visited the A Fomosa hill, visiting the ruined fortress and looking at tombstone that we couldnt understand. Janelle asked why do these people need such a big tombstone and why do people now displayed the tombstone here? My answer to her - these are some of the rich and famous people who once help to make Melaka prosperous and people here may want to remember their contribution to the town so they displayed the tombstone here.
After the historical visit, it is about time for the pasar malan (night market) to start their business. It was quite a stretch but dont be surprised there wasnt much to pick up from. The kids are only interested in the fried spiral potatoes and the stick popicles that cost only Rm 1 each. It was just syrup water frozen into ice tube but we all enjoyed it on a warm evening.
